RAD!
The Good For Wednesday Story
Burgers and Riffs
In the heart of Geelong, a city known for its iconic waterfront and AFL passion, a different kind of fire was ignited circa 2016. A group of spicy rebels, united by their love for punk rock, riffs and burgers, came together to form the powerhouse known as "Good For Wednesday." Comprising members Dave (vocals/guitar), Liam (bass), Pepe (guitar), and Jake (drums), the band was destined to create a carbonated chaos in the Australian punk scene, much like a lime Jarritos.
The Hump Day EP
In 2017, Good For Wednesday released their debut EP titled "Hump Day." The EP was an explosive declaration of their arrival, featuring tracks like "Get Out Of My Life” and "Alone." These songs showcased their energetic, in-your-face punk sound and quickly gained them a devoted following. "Hump Day" wasn't just an EP; it was a statement that the midweek blues could be obliterated with the power of punk rock.
Walkaway with Tom Read
One of the standout tracks from "Hump Day" was "Walkaway," on which the band collaborated with Tom Read from the legendary punk group Bodyjar, taking their music to a new level. The fusion of Good For Wednesday's raw energy and Read's seasoned punk prowess was electric, cementing "Walkaway" as an anthem in their scene.
Victoria's Punk Invasion
Good For Wednesday were born to rock the stage and the band quickly became a fixture of the Victorian punk and rock scenes, headlining countless gigs and supporting a range of local and touring acts along with festival appearances. From some of Melbourne's most iconic venues to regional pubs, their live performances were legendary, dripping with 90’s throwbacks and a whole lot of fun.
Punk on the Radio
As Good For Wednesday's reputation continued to grow, their music was destined for a wider audience and it was only a matter of time before the band’s energetic and infectious tunes found their way to the ears of Triple J's passionate listeners. The undeniable blend of punk energy and pop rock catchiness also caught the attention of various internet radio station music directors in the punk rock scene, landing coveted spots on curated playlists.
Wednesdays roll on…
The band's legacy endures. Good For Wednesday's music remains timeless in reminding us all that it's okay to let loose and embrace the spirit of a soundtrack that could fit a 90’s teen movie. The integrity of cherry or vanilla cola may be debatable, but their impact on Geelong's punk scene and the wider Australian punk community is well respected, where authenticity reigns supreme. Like a hot and well-seasoned chip being complimented by the right condiment for the moment, Good For Wednesday carved out their place with blistering riffs, thunderous drums, and lyrics that spoke to misfits, rebels and the every person looking for a little ‘rad’.
